The Morgan Academy Senators, fell to Pickens Academy 13-1 on Friday night.

The Pirates jumped on Morgan early. Morgan Academy struggled at the plate and according to Senators Head Coach Stephen Clements gave up too many errors on defense to stay in the game long.

“First off, hats off to Pickens Academy. They came out and swung the bats,” Clements said.

“We kicked it around a little. A lot more than normal. They hit the ball really well and we just kept kicking it.”

Harrison Pate led things off on the pitcher’s mound for Pickens Academy.

He allowed six hits and one run over four innings of work, striking out three and not allowing a walk.

John Allen Ingram was on the pitcher’s mound for the Senators. Ingram lasted one and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits and 11 runs while striking out four.  Barron Frazer and C.J. Crocker entered the game as relief, throwing two innings and one-third of an inning respectively.

Clements said that the mound was not the biggest problem for the Senators on Friday night.

“I didn’t think we were just terrible on the mound,” Clements said. We couldn’t command our breaking balls for strikes. We were having to throw a lot of fastballs and tip your hat to them. Give them credit, they hit the baseball and we kicked it around.

“Then we gave up 11 in one inning and that’s when the wheels kind of came off. They got some big hits and we got some big errors.”

Speedy Pernell went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Morgan Academy in hits.

Pickens had ten hits in the game. 

Trey Woods, Carson Webb, and Aidan Johnson each had multiple hits for the Pirates.  Woods led them with four hits in four at bats.
