The annual Selma Bridge Crossing Jubilee always put the spotlight on the City of Selma.

We enjoy honoring the Foot Soldiers, past, and present, who put their lives on the line during the historic events of Bloody Sunday that eventually led to the Voting Rights Act of 1965.  Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and U.S. Rep. John Lewis should always be remembered for battling racial injustice until the end of time.

As we all know by now, President Joe Biden will be attending the Jubilee on Sunday. We’re always honored to have a sitting President visit Selma. We were glad to see Vice President Kamala Harris attend last year.

With that in mind, we need the President and other guests attending the Jubilee to see us at our Sunday best.  Any differences our elected officials have should be put aside for improving the Queen City.

Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr. said upon meeting Biden, he will thank the President for the FEMA reimbursement. We applaud that move.

We also encourage Selma and Dallas County residents to enjoy themselves at the Jubilee and avoid getting into trouble.
