One of the Foot Soldiers from Dallas County who died in January is remembered by his family.

David Givan, who was active as a Foot Soldier, during the Ciivil Rights Movement in the 1960’s, died on January 13 in Birmingham.

His widow, Hattie Givan, will be attending the Selma Bridge Crossing Jubilee this weekend. They would’ve celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. Their daughter, Faith Givan, lives in Birmingham

Givan has two siblings that still reside in Dallas County: Darriket Givan and Barbara Jackson.

“Even as I mourn the loss of my husband and true, life partner I still find joy and pride in celebrating his contributions to the movement as a foot soldier,” Hattie Givan said. “I come back to Selma to celebrate and connect with family and friends. Jubilee Season is full of moments of reflection and love, but also of joy and the pain of loss and life struggles.”
