The City of Selma can remove debris from the tornado damage without the risk of bankrupting the Queen City.

On Thursday,  President Joe Biden announced a decision to amend Alabama Disaster Declaration increased to 100 percent of the total eligible costs during a 30-day period of the State’s choosing within the first 120 days of the incident period.

We applaud our local, state, and federal government for working together and putting politics aside for the purpose of helping Selma rebuild quickly after the January 12 tornado hit the area. It was not about being a Democrat or Republican.

President Biden, Congresswoman Terri Sewell,  Senators Tommy Tuberville and Katie Britt, and Governor Kay Ivey worked with the City of Selma and Dallas County to achieve the 100% reimbursement declaration.

Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr., Selma City Council, Dallas County Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn, Dallas County Commission, State Rep. Prince Chestnut, Dallas County EMA Director Toya Crusoe, Selma Police Department and Dallas County Sheriff’s Office all deserve high-fives for the roles they played in this.

This is what happens when people put their differences aside and work together for a common goal.

Selma and Dallas County would love to see more teamwork like this in the future and so do we.
