The Valley Grande City Council recently donated to the BlackBelt Benefit Group to assist with tornado victims in Selma.

The city council, Mayor Wayne Labbe, council members Sara Day, Kay Davidson, Bruce Hughes and Robbie Rose donated a $2,500 check to BBG. The city council voted on the donation at their January 17 meeting.

“The BBG was a good group to go with,” Labbe said.

BBG President Josh Wilkerson said he appreciates the donation.  “The tornado that hit Selma on January 12th has caused widespread devastation and displacement, and this donation will help us provide much-needed assistance to those affected,” Wilkerson said. “At BBG, our mission is to create, promote, and sustain solutions that provide a better quality of life in Alabama’s Blackbelt Region. Our focus on improving the local quality of life, attracting new residents, and providing grant funding to other community organizations that provide complementary programming aligns with our efforts to support the families affected by the tornado.”

Wilkerson unveiled where the donation from Valley Grande will be used for.

“This donation will go directly to supporting disaster relief efforts, including providing shelter, food, and other essentials to those in need,” Wilkerson said. “By working together, we believe we can make a tangible impact on the lives of those affected by the tornado and help them begin the process of rebuilding and recovery. We are proud to be a part of a community that supports each other in times of need. The Valley Grande City Council’s generosity and commitment to helping those in need is a testament to the strength of our community and the kindness of its members.”

Wilkerson continued: “As we continue to work towards our vision of a healthy, educated, revitalized, and growing Blackbelt, we are grateful for partners like The City of Valley Grande / The Valley Grande City Council who share in this mission.”
