The city of Selma continues to recover from the tornado that devastated the city  four days ago.

We’ve seen several businesses across the city get destroyed and some families lost their homes.

What’s more important during this time of crisis: our city, county and state leaders are stepping up to lead the recovery effort.

We applaud the leadership of Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr. and Dallas County Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn have provided during the crisis. Nunn was City Attorney during Perkins’ first two terms as Mayor and they have a great working relationship.

The Selma City Council and Dallas County Commission have been seen across the city surveying tornado damage and volunteering their services.

Rep. Terri Sewell is always there when Selma needs her, words we never get tired of saying. This time is no different.

State Rep. Prince Chestnut and District 23 State Senator Robert Stewart  spent the weekend taking their state colleagues around to see tornado damage.

Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and Selma Police Department showed their teamwork. That’s a good example set by Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum and SPD Chief Kenta Fulford.

Dallas County Emergency Management Agency Director Toya Crusoe deserves strong praise. Her hard work and dedication during this time is immeasurable getting the First Responders in position to clean up the roads and cutting down the trees.

Selma will recover from the crisis and that’s because of our city and county leaders setting a good example.
