Our opinion: Several groups stepped up during Christmas

The City of Selma and Dallas County are so fortunate to have countless organizations donate during Christmas.

The Selma-Dallas County Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. gave away 20 bicycles for the third straight year. Their great members include father and son of Collins Pettaway Jr. and Collins Pettaway III, Calvin Marshall.

Selma City Council President Billy Young held the second annual Joy Jubilee at First Baptist Church. Young pulled double duty with his fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha, who provided Christmas Eve dinner for the doctors, nurses and staff at Vaughan Regional Medical.

Two days before Christmas, the Selma Housing Authority held its annual holiday toy drive. They provided toys to residents in GWC, Rangedale, Valley Creek, and Felix Heights. It’s all under the leadership of SHA Executive Director Kennard Randolph.

Dorothy Cowan led the Selma Police Athletic League to another strong toy drive.

We applaud these organizations for having the Christmas spirit.
