The winners were Jessica Roberson of Selma High School and Jessica Spivey of the School of Discovery Preparatory Academy.

Spivey is the Media Specialist at the School of Discovery. Roberson is a teacher at Selma High School.

Eight nominees were up for the award. Each nominee received a certificate from the Selma City Schools superintendent Zickeyous Byrd.

“This is a great group of finalists,” Byrd said. “I have said to them before, it should mean a little bit more regardless if you are the number one finalist for Selma City Schools or not. I want our teachers to be appreciative because they were selected by their peers for them to represent their schools as teacher of the year.

“That says a whole lot. I wanted all of our teacher of the year finalists to feel that sense of pride and accomplishment knowing that their peers, who work with them every single day, see what they are doing.”
