Selma Quarterback Club Awards five scholarships

The Selma Quarterback Club awarded five scholarships to Dallas County football seniors.

Morgan Academy’s trio of Perrin Utsey, Allen Michael Creech, and John Allen Ingram, along with Carnelius Williams and Javon Richardson of Keith High School each received $4,000 scholarships.

All five seniors expressed appreciation and gratitude as the latest crop of seniors to get honored by the Selma QB Club.

‘The scholarship means everything to me,”  said Ingram, who plans to attend Auburn University next year. “It’s an honor and means less student debt I will have to fight off right away.”

Creech, who also plans to attend Auburn,  agreed.

“The scholarship means a lot  and it will help my family with financing.”

The third Senator, Utsey, said he’s grateful for the Selma QB Club. Utsey plans to attend the University of Alabama.

The Keith High duo of Richardson and Williams both say they appreciate the honor given by the Selma QB Club.

‘It gets me one step closer to my goal,” said Williams, who plans to attend Alabama A&M University.

Richardson said he could attend Rhodes College or the University of Memphis.

Here are the scholarships each received:

-Richardson – W. Forrest Hatfield Scholarship.

-Williams – J. Harmon Carter Scholarship.

-Creech – “Big” Fred Davis II Scholarship.

-Ingram – Larry D. Striplin Jr Scholarship.

-Utsey – Catesby ap C. Jones Scholarship.

Keynote speaker Ben Obomanu, a former Selma High, Auburn and NFL standout, addressed the kids during his speech.

“Hang out with smart people who will create your game, create value for yourself as a  student and create value for yourself as an athletes,” Obomanu said.
