The Monster March once again came to Selma on Monday afternoon for another year as several businesses and parents lined down Broad Street to welcome the trick-or-treaters.

From ghosts to witches and everything in between, over 400 kids came down the street to get their candy and other items from the different businesses in the city.

The Selma Times-Journal handed out coloring books as part of the Monster March.

The coloring book was sponsored by Jerria Martin, director of the Drug-free communities of Dallas County.

“Everything we do is calculated,” Martin said. “It’s the little things that we do and it goes a long way. When I gave out the books,

“I smiled and told the kids to remember to be drug-free. I am happy because the kids are getting the message.

The coloring book was based on being drug-free. Last week was Red-Ribbon week in the school systems to promote a drug-free life.

“This past month was actually Drug Prevention month,” Martin said. “We visited over 10 different schools in Selma and in Dallas County in the past month.

“We have done games and drug-free pep rallies in those schools. It has been a fun month for sure.”

After walking around Broad Street, kids went back to City Hall where music and more fun awaited.

The Selma Police Department was on hand to keep the kids safe and they did a great job in doing so.

Along with the kids coming down the street, the Selma High School band also treated the on-lookers with music and dancing.

The Monster March also had a hayride and a costume contest. The night ended with Saints or Treat at Selma High School Cafeteria.

It was a fun evening for all those involved that enjoyed the Monster March and treats in downtown Selma.
