One of the best volleyball seasons at Morgan Academy ended Tuesday evening in Montgomery when Hooper Academy knocked off the Lady Senators in the Final Four of the AISA State Tournament.

Morgan Academy finished the season with 30 wins, a Regional championship and took a number three ranking in the Alabama Sportswriters Association poll into the postseason.

We’re impressed with the work that head coach Glen Graham has done in two years at Morgan Academy as the Lady Senators bought into his system and believed they could achieve greatness.

“Last season, we talked about earning respect, they worked really hard since April,” Graham said. “I tell them all the time, it’s not where you start, its where you finish. I am extremely proud of them. You always wish you could have a few plays back, but they had a great year. This group set a new standard for Morgan Academy volleyball. a  great group of young ladies. They represented their families, Morgan Academy and me in a very positive way.”

Two Lady Senators, Keenan McHugh and Bailey Brown, were both selected to play in the AISA All-Star Volleyball game on Friday night at the Cramton Bowl.

The other Morgan Academy players deserve credit as well: Brooke Waters, Molly Bohannon, Kylie Calame, Paisley Denmark, McCann Perkins, Lilly McHugh, Margaret McLaughlin, Hadley Verhoff, Brooke Egbert, Lydia Smitherman, Taylor Roberts, Maryn Bergeron, Sarah Grace Holladay, – Delaney McHugh, Anna Drew Haugen, Audrey Selby, Emme Albritton and MacKenzie King.

The 2022 Lady Senators set the bar for future volleyball teams, especially the JV squad that won a state championship this season.

Under Glen Graham, the Morgan Academy volleyball program is in good hands.
