Selma Attorney Faya Toure discussed equality and justice at the Dallas County Commission on Monday.

The wife of former State Senator Hank Sanders,   Toure spoke about two points during the Public Comment section of the meeting at the Dallas County Courthouse.

Toure, who had a group of supporters in attendance, said that Stephanie Smith-Black’s son died in the Dallas County Jail and was there eight years for killing “a white man.”

Toure also recommended that the Dallas County Commission, Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn, Commissioners Jan Justice, Curtis Williams, Vivian Rogers, Connell Towns remove  Dallas County Attorney John Kelly from office. “Get an attorney who will represent all of the people,” Toure said. “He’s given you bad advice.”

The Dallas County  Commission did not respond to Toure.

When Kelly took the podium to speak, Toure and her followers left the meeting. As Toure and the group departed, they screamed, “No justice, no peace.”

Kelly was classy as he addressed the commission, quoting Psalm 118:24: “This is the day the Lord has made;We will rejoice and be glad in it.”
