The Valley Grande City Council approved a city tax exemption for David Oliver, owner of Dave’s Market.

Resolution 2022-145 was unanimously approved by the council: Mayor Wayne Labbe, council members Kay Davidson, Sara Day, Jane Harris, Robbie Rose and Bruce Hughes.

Oliver will be exempt from city sales tax on building material for the construction of the new Dave’s market store.

The city council requires that Oliver includes submission of invoices along with proof of payment to be reviewed by the council once a month before they are refunded for a period of six months.

All contractors and sub-contractors will be exempt from the request and they must have a Valley Grande business license.

The city of Valley Grande will refund Oliver three percent on the city sales tax on building material with proof of payment for the new construction approved by the council for six months.

The other old business, Resolution 2022-146, the Park Security Gate Bid Award, was also approved.

Morrow Ornamental Iron won the bid over Vision Security Technologies. Morrow Ornamental’s bid was at $18,900, plus any electrical work, compared to Vision Security at $35,000.

Labbe said the council will look into the electrical costs.

The only new business on the agenda was the Fisca Year 2023 budget, which will be voted at the next council meeting on September 19.

Labbe said that he and City Clerk/Treasurer Kim Harris  have gone over the proposed budget and made a few adjustments.
