Valley Grande City Council honors Emma Smith

The Valley Grande City Council honored the family of Emma Smith before its council meeting on Tuesday night.

A prayer request came from Valley Grande Council member Kay Davidson, a friend of Smith and her family. Smith passed away August 29 and was laid to rest at Elkdale Baptist Church last Saturday.

Davidson is neighbors with Smith’s daughter, Kesia Smith, a Valley Grande resident. She was also a co-worker with Smith’s other daughter, Kathy Johnson at Vaughan Regional Medical Center. Smith’s other child is Kelvin Smith Jr.

“I go to church with Kesia and worked with Kathy for years, Miss Emma was truly one of a kind and is greatly missed,” Davidson said.

The rest of the Valley Grande city council, Mayor Wayne Labbe, council members Sara Day, Robbie Rose, Bruce Hughes, Jane Harris and clerk/treasurer all offered their condolences to the family of Smith, whose jobs included .Captain D’s manager, Dallas County Schools Bus driver, Leila’s Day Care and Cornerstone Presbyterian Church Nursery.
