James L. Calvert passed away August 1, 2022 at the age of 83. He was born February 20, 1939 to the late James Daniel Calvert and Christine McCafferty Calvert.

J.L. was a machinist for over fifty years at Phillies Cigar and was a long-time member of Summerfield Baptist Church. He loved to joke and pick at those he loved.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jamie Calvert; sister, Nella Mae Walker.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Norma Jean Calvert; grandchildren, Celia Calvert, Chase Shipman; sister, Patsy C. Yager; daughter-in-law, Missy Calvert and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday August 3, 2022 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home with Pastor Ryan Skiebe officiating. Interment will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:-8: p.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.  Pallbearers will be Chase Shipman, Chuck Harris, Barry Anderson, Otis Bender, Jermaine Tolbert and Bobby Owen.
