Gospel Tabernacle Church added new layers to its annual Learning Fun & Fitness Summer STEM Camp this year.
Almost 70 campers between grades kindergarten through 12th attended the six-week camp held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. under the direction of Ghytana Goings.
Kindergarten through eighth graders are in a regular camp. College and Career Readiness Camp is for freshmen through seniors.
“Operation Outbreak Aviation Career Readiness” was recently added to the camp. High school campers are learning Aviation at Craig Air Force Base.
Other events campers are attending include: Selma-Dallas County Public Library, Walton Theater and out of town trips to McWane Center in Birmingham and USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile.
High school campers also have watched court cases being tried in the Dallas County Courthouse, done music classes, music classes, dance classes, welding classes.
Dr. CeCe Grayson, director of the pilot program for ninth through 12th graders, said the goal is to increase learning for the participants.
“I am super excited to share some of the “Never seen before” experiences with our Scholars to encourage them to dream and see themselves as achievers,” Grayson said.
“We are excited about what they are experiencing. Our College & Career Readiness Campers being exposed to things to open their minds to dream big.”
Each of the Scholars are using the IXL Educational Software to raise their academic levels with the help of some Certified and Non Certified current School Teachers.
John E. Grayson is the Pastor of Gospel Tabernacle.
