Sheriff’, Coroner races highlight primary election in Dallas County

Three races in Dallas County headlines Tuesday’s Primary Election on the Democrat side. Polls open at 7 a.m. Tuesday and close at 7 p.m.

Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum, goes for a second term, but is challenged by candidate Donald Shepard. Granthum was elected in 2018.

Alan Dailey goes for a fifth term as Dallas County Coroner, but goes against  Kristen Perry.

William Minor and Mae Taylor Richmond are battling for the Dalas County Board of Education District 1 Seat.

Three other races have local ties.

For Fourth Judicial District Attorney , incumbent Michael Jackson is getting a challenge from Marion Attorney Robert Turner Jr.

The State Senator District 23 seat is filled with Selma ties. Hank Sanders tries to regain his former seat, facing Thayer Spencer, Darrio Melton and Robert Stewart. Melton was Selma Mayor from 2016 to 2020.

State Rep. Prince Chestnut goes for a second term and faces candidate Larine Pettway.

Malika Fortier, who decided not to run again, is running for Governor on the Democrat side with: Yolanda Flowers, Patricia Jamison, Arthur Kennedy, Chad Martin and Doug Smith.

Statewide on the Republican ballot, incumbent Governor Kay faces Lindy Blanchard, Tim James among others.

The Republican race for Senator features Katie Britt, Mo Brooks and Mike Durant. If a runoff election is needed, it will be held on June 21 in any race if a candidate doesn’t get 50 percent of the vote.
