Art in the park highlights Valley Grande City Council meeting

The upcoming Art in the Park  event highlighted the Valley Grande City Council meeting.

The entire council was present: Mayor Wayne Labbe, councilwomen Sara Day, Kay Davidson, Jane Harris, Bruce Hughes and Robbie Rose and clerk/treasurer Kim Harris.

Walk in the Park starts at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Valley Grande Park.

Day, who’s in charge of the Walking Trail and Community Events, said several food vendors are lined up and live music will be played.

“I’ve reached out to several artists and everything is falling into place,” Day said. 

In other council news:

-Hughes said he’s still working on a company for a fence at Valley Grande Park. The item went under old business, Park Security Gate.

-Labbe had the only new business on the agenda, Maintenance Position.

Labbe sounded like a football coach searching for depth at key positions.  He said that the city needs a backup for Parks and Recreation Director and Public Safety Director, positions held by Bubba Holley and Boyd Pugh, respectively.

“We need depth on our staff,” Labbe said. “I’m worried we don’t have enough depth. We need someone to fill these roles.”

The next Valley Grande City Council meeting will be held on Monday, May 17 at 6 p.m. at Valley Grande City Hall.
