Three Dallas County residents graduated from Stillman College last weekend.

Tyriq Fells and Anthony Kemp of Selma and Shelby Boswell of Valley Grande all earned college degrees at Stillman College’s 146th Commencement. The Dallas County trio were among 119 students who received their diplomas on a overcast spring morning.

Fells earned a Criminal Justice degree. Kemp earned a degree in Business Administration.

Boswell graduated with honors, earning Bachelor of Science Summa Cum Laude, posting a Grade Point Average between 3.8 and 4.0 and a Elementary Education degree.

Fells said he appreciated the journey it took to earn a college degree.

“My time at Stillman College has been long, rough, and rugged but it made a hell of a man out of me,” Fells said. “This is only the beginning and I can’t wait to see what else I can accomplish.”

Boswell held the highest rank in my department, allowing her to carry the department’s flag during graduation.

“I am very thankful for the opportunities and friendships that emerged during my time at Stillman,” Boswell said.

“Thank you, Stillman College, for the four challenging and extensive years that have given me the knowledge, preparation, and determination to achieve anything I put my mind to; and thank you, family and friends, for the constant love and support through it all.”

Acclaimed Chef, Author and TV Host Gerry Garvin, better known as G. Garvin, delivered the commencement address.

Garvin, who received an honorary degree, encouraged the students to follow their dreams and never give up.
