The citywide cameras and position in the Selma Police Department could get decided at the Selma City Council meeting on Tuesday night.

The council meeting starts at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

The cameras and Lieutenant position in the SPD were on the Mayor’s Report at Thursday night’s city council work session.

Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr., Selma City Council members, IT Director John Kinnerson Jr. and SPD Captain Natasha Fowlkes met last week. Fowlkes filled in for the absence of Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford.

Perkins said the meeting went well between all of the sides involved. “We had a great citywide camera meeting,” Perkins said. “We have a consensus on the direction. We’re hoping a decision will be made sooner rather than later. I’m hoping it will be Tuesday.”

Perkins also recommended that the Lieutenant position be returned to the SPD. Perkins said that Fulford was listed on the Fiscal Budget twice, as Lieutenant and Chief. He recommended Fulford’s name taken off the spot and appoint someone to the position.
