Arts Revive hosted the 20th annual  Alabama Artists Roots and Wings on Thursday night.

Julian Wait, AC Reeves, Tres Taylor, Bradford Brackin and Julian Helms were among the talented Selma and Dallas County artists who got put on display and praised by guests who attended.

It was the first event for new Arts Revive President Ruth Talton, who enjoyed the show.

“I feel great about our event,” Talton said. “I’m privileged to be the Arts Revive President. It’s a great organization. We have great plans for the future.”

Arts Revive Executive Director Becky Youngblood praised the work of Brackin, who won best in show at the event.

“Well, I don’t know how many hours she spent on that, but she spent an untold amount of hours … First of all, she collected the leaves,” Youngblood said. “ Then, she spray painted the leaves front and back. Then, she resined the leaves front and back, and they dried in this little, kind of hammock thing that she had in her art room. I saw it from the beginning, and then, of course, the finished product was phenomenal.”

Jenifer Levins, who won first and second place in the show, said “it was a great night in Selma at the Arts Revive Show.”

Birmingham Blues musician Elmora Spencer performed old-school R&B and pop songs during the two-hour event.

Dallas County Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn and former Dallas County District Attorney Edgar Greene both attended the event.
