Morgan Academy softball star signs scholarship

Morgan Academy infielder Leanna Johnson always knew where she wanted to play college softball.

Johnson signed with Columbia State (Tennessee) University on Thursday morning at Morgan Academy. She signed in front of family and friends.

“I picked Columbia State because when I met the coach at a camp I loved his personality and the way he coached,” Johnson said. “They asked me to come practice with them and that was when I knew Columbia State was where I wanted to go. I felt like I was at home and loved the atmosphere.”

Johnson, who plays catcher and third base, was The Selma Times-Journal softball player of the year in 2020 is excited to play for the Junior College school.

“I am so grateful for this amazing opportunity, and I can’t thank my family and coaches enough for all the help and encouragement along the way,” Johnson said. “I’m super excited to get to play for such an amazing group of girls and coaches.”
