1954 – 2022

Anne Carson Caine passed away 12 days short of her 68th birthday on Jan. 3, 2022, in Brigham City, Utah, after fighting many battles over a long period of time from a lengthy list of debilitating illnesses. She was born Jan. 15, 1954, in Selma, the fifth of seven children.

In her younger, healthy life, Anne loved sewing and was an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing, and especially helping others. She also loved to sing in the choir at First Baptist Church in Selma.  After graduating from Selma High School in 1973, Anne moved to Logan, UT, to continue her education at Utah State University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health and served in the ROTC.

Just out of college, Anne was employed by Thiokol Corporation and later chose to pursue her desires to work in a more humanitarian field by accepting a position with the Multiple Sclerosis Society in Houston, TX, and afterwards serving as Executive Director of the Permian Basin Chapter of the M.S. Society in Midland, TX. She later moved to Denver, CO, where she began working for the American Lung Association.

Anne moved back to Utah in the 1990s. She married Scott LaDell Cutler, Feb 14, 2002, in Ogden, UT. They were a tremendous help to one another as they each struggled with health issues. He passed away November 19, 2013.

She loved animals and was a loyal supporter of several animal rights and wilderness animal interests for many years.

A true Christian at heart, she personally proclaimed:

Although she lived outside of AL after high school, Anne never lost her “girl raised in the south” accent and continued to be a die-hard Alabama “Roll Tide” football fan to the end. She loved the beaches in Alabama but also fell in love with the mountains and people of Utah. As her varied illnesses advanced, Anne looked forward to the time when she no longer needed anymore “cotton pickin’ meds”.

Anne is survived by her brother Walter Drury (Yvonne) Caine, Jr. of Mobile, AL; her sisters Tereesa Caine Sparks of Auburn, AL, Rosemary Caine (Eric) Aycock of Chelsea, AL, Priscilla Clark (Chuck) Haggard of Pelham, AL; sisters-in-law Virginia (Tim) Parker of Brigham City, UT, and Tammy Cutler of Perry, UT; Scott’s daughters Carrie Ann (Brian) Dessert of Piedmont, OK and Amber (Kit) Gunter of Layton, UT; many nieces and nephews; and two adorable Yorkies Willie and Ginger.

She was preceded in death by her husband Scott LaDell Cutler, father Walter Drury Caine, mother Kitty Sue Clark Caine, two sisters Kitty Lee Caine and Alice Caine Sealey, one great nephew Christopher Fisher Martin, father-in-law Virgil William Cutler, mother-in-law Norma Rena (Penny) Morrill Cutler, and brother-in-law William Virgil “Bill” Cutler.

A special “thank you” goes to Aegis Home Health and Hospice whose professional help and mere presence were a godsend to Anne. The highly certified Aegis staff who cared for and about her did not go unnoticed. The “Darlin’” Gables’ team in Brigham City who dedicated themselves to making Anne’s final months as comfortable and happy as possible are never to be forgotten. Anne could not have been treated better. She loved you all. And a “thank you” also goes to the staff and friends at Three Link Towers in Ogden where Anne lived for well over 20 yrs. Your help during her times of need were sincerely appreciated by Anne and her family.

Services will be held Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Myers Mortuary Chapel, 205 S 100 E, Brigham City, UT. The Viewing will be held prior to the service from 10– 10:45 a.m., also at the mortuary. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
