Southside High steamrolls Selma High in basketball

Southside High drew first blood in its crosstown rivalry against Selma High.

Tae Spears scored 19 points as the Panthers spanked Selma High 52-26 last Friday night.

Southside controlled from the opening tip, leading 15-4 after one quarter and 24-12 at halftime. At the end of the third quarter, Southside led 42-19.

Chris Thomas added 12 points and seven assists for the Panthers.

Dakaari Nelson led the Saints with eight points.

Selma girls 36, Southside 35: Sarryah Pope and Alexis Walker each scored seven points as the Lady Saints held on to a low-scoring victory.

Southside had a chance to win in the closing seconds, missing four free throws.

Shamya Allison led the Lady Panthers with 13 points.
