LIFT Ministries served the inmates at the Dallas County Jail a Thanksgiving meal.

LIFT Ministries CEO LaTanglia Williams provided the 150 inmates food and deodorant for the holiday. She provided the gifts, including a ham, cake at the Dallas County Jail on Tuesday morning.

“As Christians, we can reclaim Thanksgiving, rather than just being a day where we eat too much and strategize our Black Friday sales plan of attack,” Williams said. “We can go back to our historical and spiritual roots as we give thanks to God. Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on our blessings and perhaps even give back if we prospered during the year.”

Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum said he’s grateful that LIFT Ministries provided meals for the inmates.

“We’re thankful that LIFT Ministries thought of us and we was sworn in as Sheriff appreciate it,” Granthum said. “It means a lot and we’re thankful.”

Williams said its important to think about the inmates during the holidays.

“Despite the meals and visits, the holidays can be a difficult time emotionally for detainees,” Williams said. “Some people like to hide under the covers on their bunk and sleep the day away because it is too much to handle.

“It can be difficult for detainees to cope with the trauma of being away from their loved ones and the loneliness.  I believe Jesus Christ can heal people during incarceration. I wanted to provide the men and women at the Dallas County Jail a delicious Thanksgiving meal along with hygiene items to show them the love of Christ.”

Williams’ father, Dallas County Commissioner Curtis Williams and Dallas County Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn were among those who attended the event.
