Jaserica Angion named Miss Selma University for 2021-22

Rev. Dr. Stanford Angion has a second pageant winner in the family.

Jaserica Angion was crowned Miss Selma University at a ceremony on Monday night at Jemison-Owen Auditorium.

Angion, a junior majoring in Business Administration, said being named Miss Selma University is a special moment of her life.

“It means a lot,” Angion said. “I could’ve gone to other schools. Being named Miss Selma University validates why I came here.”

Stanford Angion performed the coronation of Angion, a Coy native. Coy is located in Wilcox County.

“I bestow upon you all of the rights, honors, and privileges pertaining to the office of Miss Selma,” Stanford Angion said. “I encourage you to walk circumspectly in the fear and admonition of the Lord. I exhort you to be strong and courageous as a Godly servant leader who has been called to represent Selma University in the aforementioned capacity, for such a time as this.”

Angion is Stanford’s niece. Her first cousin, Kendra Angion, was named Miss Alabama State University last month in Montgomery. Another cousin, Ivana Angion, was the first Runner Up at ASU two years ago.

“I’m deeply involved with Christ, being named Miss Selma fits,” Angion said.

Dallas County Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn was among the patrons who congratulated Angion.

“I’m sure that you worked hard to achieve this as it would not have been possible without hard work and dedication,” Nunn said. “I am very proud of your achievements and look forward to more great things from you in the future. I am sure you will represent Selma University well. I hope you achieve much success in everything you do.”

The Southern Rural Black Women’s Initiative Human Rights Commission of Wilcox County praised Angion’s dedication, passion in becoming Miss Selma University.

WilcoxWorks also applauded Angion, one of its employees.

The Ladies of the women’s Auxiliary of the Alabama State Missionary Baptist Convention, Inc. and its President Maxine Abrams, sponsored the Miss Selma University coronation.
