The Salvation Army-Selma Service Center held a ribbon cutting and grand re-opening ceremony on Wednesday afternoon.

Dallas County Commissioner Jan Justice, former Orrville Councilwoman Jewell Williamson and Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sheryl Smedley all attended the re-opening of the Salvation Army Center.

Laura Donovan, Manager of the Salvation Army Service Center for Selma and Demopolis, pointed out the reasons for having a grand opening at its location on 524 Broad Street.

“People may have forgotten about us,” Donovan said. “We needed to remind people we’re still here. We need people to shop and donate. We did a lot of work getting re-organized.

Smedley said the Salvation Army Service center is important to the community.

The store hours are Monday-Tuesday and Thursday-Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Donovan also announced  that the launch date for the Red Kettle Campaign and Angel Tree Program is Friday, November 19. 

“We raise money to help people who have trouble paying their rent. We’ve set up agreement with water companies in Dallas County, so we can pay water bills,” Donovan said. “We help people who need vouchers because they’re homeless or because they’re getting a home for the first time — or they’ve lost a home in a fire”.
