City of Selma announce plans for MLK holiday

The Selma City Council announced plans for Martin Luther King Day.

At last Thursday’s City Council Work Session, the Selma-Dallas County chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Delta Pi Lambda Chapter,  is hosting and sponsoring a MLK City Parade on Saturday, January 15.

The announcement was made by  Delta Pi Lambda Chapter  Vice President Donovan McGuire.

The parade will start at 10 a.m. at School of Discovery and finish at Riverfront Park.

City Council President Billy Young, who’s also a member of the Black Belt Alphas, said he’s excited about the fraternity hosting the MLK parade.

Meleah Montgomery of Auburn University announced via ZOOM Conference that 66 students will volunteer and help cleanup the city of Selma on Monday, January 17, which is the MLK holiday.

Montgomery said the students are looking forward to visiting the Queen City and clean up the area.

Two years ago on MLK day, several Auburn students helped clean up Selma in all eight of the Wards.
