Rojo’s Seafood Restaurant held its ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony last Friday.

Several high-profile city and county officials attended: Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr., Selma City Councilwoman Lesia James, Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sheryl Smedley, State Senator Malika Sanders-Fortier, Dallas County Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn and Dallas County Commissioners Jan Justice and Vivian Rogers and Snow Cleaning Service owner LeMarkus A. Snow.

Johnson, who began the restaurant in his house, thanked everyone for coming out and supporting him.

“I’m excited about bringing a diverse restaurant to Selma,” Johnson said.

Perkins and Nunn both said they admired Johnson for coming up with a plan and sticking to it.

Granthum praised Johnson for doing a test run, which he allowed residents to taste the food by his workers.

“It cost him a lot of money to let people eat free, but he was willing to take that chance,” Granthum said.

Johnson also thanked his wife, Tressa Johnson and their three children for backing him.

Rojo’s hours are Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Rojo’s is open for drive through and carry out.
