A Selma man was sentenced in U.S. Federal Court for  possessing a firearm while being a previously convicted felon. 

John Ashley Jones, Jr. aka  Baby Junior,  was sentenced to 112 months in prison. Jones was approached by the Dallas County Sheriff Office on June 4, 2020.

DCSO Deputies responded to a call about a suspicious person with a firearm at the 200 block of Landsend Avenue in Selma.

When Deputies arrived, they saw a man, later identified as Jones, standing  next to a tan SUV. A deputy observed Jones make a motion as though he had thrown something  under the vehicle as deputies approached the SUV. Jones was secured and deputies recovered a Ruger .380 caliber pistol from under the SUV.

Jones was prohibited from possessing firearms or  ammunition as a result of his multiple prior felony convictions, including discharging a firearm into an occupied building, assault, manslaughter, possession of a controlled substance, and being a felon  in possession of a firearm.

U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello of the Southern District of Alabama announced the case.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department,  and the 4th Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force investigated the case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Arrington prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
