Southside won the inaugural Christopher Harrell Memorial Trophy with a 40-14 rout over Dallas County on Thursday night at Memorial Stadium.

The Panthers (9-1) earned the trophy with a sweep over Dallas County rivals Selma, Keith and the Hornets.
The trophy, named after longtime Dallas County High School basketball assistant coach killed in a robbery, was presented by Bruce and Linda Holmes after the game.
“One of our goals was to win the county championship,” Panthers coach Charles Moody said.
The Panthers built a 18-0 halftime lead on the strength of two Chris Thomas touchdown passes. Thomas threw a 8 yard scoring toss to Tae Spears and a 23-yarder to Mariyon Johnson. Sam Taylor added a 3-yard scoring run.
Southside padded its lead to 26-0 on Thomas’ 53-yard TD pass to Spears early in the third quarter.
The Hornets (3-7) got on the board when backup quarterback Davieon Jones scored from 8 yards out and Markeice Stallworth added two point conversion, getting within 26-8.
Southside delivered the knockout punch as Derick Smith returned the ensuing kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown. Taylor added a two point run as the Panthers led 34-6.
Jones scored from 24 yards out and a two point run brought the Hornets within 34-14.
The Panthers closed the scoring in the final seconds as Thomas threw a 6 yard pass to Marquarius Reese.
Southside turns its attention to Bayside Academy, whom the Panthers play in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs next Friday at home.
“One of our goals is to win a state title,” Moody said. “All week the kids have been thinking about Bayside.”
