Selma man killed breaking into Minter Terrace Apartments

The Selma Police Department is investigating a murder that took place at Minter Terrace Apartments on Thursday.

Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford said that a black man was killed during a armed robbery around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday night on the 2501 block of Minter Avenue.

“Our officers responded to Minter Terrace Apartments in reference to a capital homicide,  a black male subject 21 years of age was killed during a armed robbery,” Fulford said.

Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson identified the victim as Ozene Witherspoon.

“A burglar broke in, got shot and killed,” Jackson said. “One of the consequences of breaking into somebody’s home or business is that you may be shot or killed. A burglar gets killed breaking into somebody’s house.”

Fulford said the incident remains under investigation by the SPD.

Jackson said the District Attorney’s office will present the case to the Dallas County Grand Jury.

“Citizens have a right to use deadly force if somebody is breaking into their home,” Jackson said.

This is the 18th murder in Selma for 2021.
