City, county to celebrate Halloween with events

The city of Selma and Dallas County are holding separate events to celebrate Halloween.

Selma City officials and the Selma-Dallas County Public Library are presenting Monster March on Thursday.

The Monster March will start at 3 p.m. at the Library with Costume Contest Registration and Face Painting and Crafts.

Kids will walk to Riverfront Park, with Monster Village, Games, Hay rides, costume winners and music start at 5 p.m.

A movie on the lawn presented by Walton Theater will be shown at 6 p.m.

Food Trucks will arrive at 4 p.m. Kona Ice will be available.

The Selma City Council are encouraging Queen City residents to celebrate Halloween Saturday, not its actual date on Sunday, October 31. The council voted.

City Council President Billy Young  said it would be best to celebrate Halloween on Saturday.

The Dallas County officials will host Candy at the Courthouse on Saturday at 5 p.m. in the Dallas County Courthouse Parking Lot.

The Dallas County Sheriff Office, Helping a Neighbor in Distress (HAND) and TRAP (To Rise Above Poverty) are the event’s sponsors.
