The Selma City Council will have a loaded council meeting on Tuesday night.

At last week’s city council work session, getting the 2022 budget processed and approving members for the Selma Redevelopment Authority were among the top priorities. The meeting will start at 6 p.m. at Selma City Hall.

Young said the city council will work with the Finance Department to ensure the 2022 Budget gets processed.

Councilman Clay Carmichael and Troy Harvill said  it’s the system that is causing the problem.

Former Dallas County District Court Judge Bob Armstrong, R.B. Hudson Middle School Principal Cicely Curtis, Jimmy Coleman all spoke to the city council and gave their reasons for the board.

“I’m a homeboy, these are my people,” Armstrong said. “Being on the board will be my way to make a difference in Selma.”

Coleman presented a package, which Council President Billy Young called impressive.

Curtis and Hollie each pointed out their experiences in education and legal, respectively.

The surveillance cameras were discussed. Young said both sides are still reviewing the contracts of Alabama Power and Selcom. The council voted 5-4 for Selcom last month.

Harvill suggested that an outside council review the contracts.

Carmichael continued to suggest that the city’s Tower Ordinance needs updating. He’s talked to officials in Demopolis about their ordinance.

Other topics discussed: resolution for Bush Hog’s 70 anniversary, renaming Buckeye Avenue and approving Liz Rutledge as Personnel Director.

Perkins was not present as Dawn Taylor, Executive Assistant to the Mayor delivered the Mayor’s report.
