Southside clobbers Thomasville on Senior Night

Southside High School made history on Senior Night.

Chris Thomas and Tae Spears connected on two touchdown passes as Southside hammered Thomasville 32-7 on Friday night at Panthers Stadium.

Southside (8-1, 5-1 Region 5, 3A) will host a first-round playoff game in two weeks at Panther Stadium.

“It’s amazing, we will be playing the first ever playoff game at our stadium, that doesn’t happen everyday,” Panthers coach Charles Moody Jr. said.

The senior class of Tae Spears, Chris Thomas, BJ Moorer, Jo’tavious Hamilton, Stacee Rudolph, Ja’trayveon Spears, Jaijuan Gordon, Amir Muhammad, Elijah Richardson, Rodderrick Powell, Da’marious Bender, Tray McCall assured the Panthers got at least one more home game in football.

“It feels great to host a playoff game, I’m grateful to the coaching staff and the players,” Powell said.

Taylor’s 3-yard TD run gave the Panthers a 6-0 first quarter lead.

The Tigers (4-5, 4-2) took their only lead at 7-6 on Kameron Wright’s 8-yard TD run.

Southside outscored the Tigers 14-0 the rest of the second quarter to grab a 20-7 halftime lead.

KeAndre Williams scored from 3 yards out. Thomas and Spears connected on a 31-yard TD play. Taylor added a 2-point conversion run.

The Panthers outscored Thomasville 12-0 in the second half. Thomas and Spears hooked up on a 21-yard TD play in the third quarter.

Williams scored on a 3-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
