The City of Valley Grande passed its $1.1 million budget for the 2022 Fiscal Year.

The fiscal year begins Friday and ends on September 20, 2022.

Mayor Wayne Labbe and city council members Kay Davidson, Sara Day, Jane Harris, Robbie Rose and Bruce Hughes unanimously approved the new budget.

For the second straight year, the city budget is over $1 million. Last year’s budget was $1.04 million

“We’ll be spending a little more money this year,” Labbe said.

Total sales tax accounts for $694,000 of the budget. Other sales tax is totaled at $375,000. The Sellers Use Tax is at $275,000. Tobacco tax revenue is at $14,500. Other taxes are gas tax revenue ($6,500), consumer use tax ($15,000), rental tax ($8,000) and tag and titles ($5,000).

Valley Grande puts $335,000 aside for public safety.

$92,000. They donate a combined $62,000 to the three volunteer fire departments in its area: $25,000 each to Valley Grande and Summerfield and $12,000 to Potters Station.

For Administration, payroll is set at $83,000. The Mayor and Council salaries are set at $33,600. Payroll expense is set at $20,000.

Health insurance is set at $16,500 and $5,250 allowed for retirement.

Valley Grande spends a combined $20,000 on two holiday city events: Independence Day ($15,000) and Christmas in the Park ($5,000). An additional $5,000 is spent on other events.

Labbe said that he wanted more events for the community to get to know their elected officials and give the youth some outdoor activities.

Valley Grande City Council meeting will be held on Monday at 6 p.m. at Valley Grande City Hall.
