The University of Montevallo bass fishing team won a national championship.

UM earned the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia. UM earned the most cumulative points of any team in the nation for its first School of the Year honor.

The fishing team is a part of the UM President’s Outdoor Scholars Program.

“I am extremely proud of what this team has accomplished. These guys have been so focused since the season started,” UM Outdoor Scholars Program Director and bass team campus advisor William Crawford said. “We had the goal at the beginning of the year to be the number-one team in the country, and since November they have done just that.”

Tyler native Miller Spivey is a member of the UM Bass Fishing team. Chilton County and Bibb County also have members of the team: Wesley Gore (Clanton), Trent Jones (Thorsby) and Tanner English (Centreville).
