The Selma Police Department is investigating a horrific Sunday morning shooting.

Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford and Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson both confirmed that William Smith III was killed Sunday during a drive-through on King Street.

The Selma Police Department responded to the incident 2:15 a.m. Sunday by Vaughan Regional Medical Center about a gunshot victim in the hospital’s emergency room. Officers found Smith sitting in the passenger’s seat of a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe suffering from a gunshot wound to the back of the head. Smith was pronounced dead at the hospital. Markeith Rayford was the driver of the vehicle, according to the SPD.

“A black male in his 30’s (Smith) was on the passenger side of the vehicle traveling on the 600 block of King Street when shots were fired, striking him in head,” Fulford said.

Fulford said ”there are no suspects at this time and the incident remains under investigation by the SPD.”

This is the second murder of the month and 2021. Longtime Dallas County High School Assistant basketball coach Christopher Harrell was fatally shot Feb. 4 near Lannie’s BBQ at Medical Center Parkway after an attempted robbery.
