3 Dallas County schools win Area championships

Three Dallas County schools captured Area basketball championships over the weekend: Dallas County, Selma High and Keith.

Michael Irvin scored 13 points as fourth-ranked Dallas County held off Bibb County 53-50 to win the Area 6, Class 4A championship on Friday night in Plantersville.

Jarvis Moss scored 14 points, including the game-winning layup with four seconds left as Selma beat Sipsey Valley 47-45 to win the Area 7, Class 5A championship.

Tommy Tisdale III scored 13 points as Keith hammered Linden 62-32 to win the Area 6, Class 1A title.

Dallas County 53, Bibb County 50: Josh Brown and Carlton Underwood Jr. each scored 10 points for the Hornets (12-4), who will host a first-round Sub-Regional contest on Tuesday.

All-Star guard Dee Ellis also scored 10 points, but had 13 assists. Ellis was named the tournament’s MVP.

Brown and Irvin made the all-tournament team for the Hornets, who led 33-18 at halftime and was never in danger of losing.

Selma 47, Sipsey Valley 45: Aaron Strong scored 13 points and Dion Nelson added 12 for the Saints (10-3), who overcame a 15-point deficit.

The Saints took advantage of missed Sipsey Valley layups and free throws in the second half.

Keith 62, Linden 32: Victor Millhouse Jr, added 12 points. Mart’Chavious Johnson and Terrell Lumpkin each scored 11 points. DeCarlos Moore grabbed 17 rebounds.

Hale County 65, Southside 61: The Wildcats knocked off the Panthers (5-9) for the second time in three weeks to win the Area 8, Class 3A championship.

Central-Tuscaloosa girls 54, Selma 21: The  No. 1 Lady Falcons won  a 10th straight Area championship at home over the eighth-ranked Lady Saints (9-3).
