This Sunday, The Selma Art Guild (SAG) will host its first ever “Holly Jolly Market” from noon – 4 p.m. at the Selma Art Guild Gallery located at 508 Selma Ave.

SAG Co-President and Publicity Coordinator Jo Taylor said The Holly Jolly Market will have no shortage of handmade art and other gifts to choose from as people prepare for the upcoming Christmas season including paintings, pottery, jewelry and handmade soaps and lotions.

Taylor said SAG decided to put together the Holly Jolly Market in light of Sturdivant Hall not hosting their annual Artisan’s Fair this year, and many local artist would take a hot financially if unable to sell their wares for the holidays.

“We really wanted to support our local and regional crafts people,” she said. “Our local artisans are our community. They are our friends and neighbors.”

Aside from the fact that sales support local artisans, Taylor said the handmade objects that will be available at Sunday’s market make much better gifts than those available at big box stores.

“Something handmade is of a much higher quality than something from Walmart or Target,” said Taylor. “It’s also unique, not something mass produced you can buy anywhere else.”

The full lineup of local makers to be featured at this weekend’s market includes: paintings from Shirley Baird, Gena Clements, Cam Guarino, Rebecca Koontz, Laura McDowell, Joanna Nichols, Sarah Wagoner and Karen Weir; pottery from Taylor Gindlesberger, Jo Taylor and Sarah Wagoner; mixed media from Bradford Bracken; stained glass from Roger Stewart; fine jewelry from Doris Butler; fused glass from Jo Taylor; calligraphy from Sarah Wagoner; woodworks from Sam Gindlesberger; goat milk soaps and lotions from Laura Spencer; hand-crafted jewelry from Rebecca Koontz; baskets from Betty Bain and April McCartney; and needle felt creations by Beth Walker.

Taylor asks those that attend the Holly Jolly Market wear a mask or face shield and practice social distancing in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
