A free food giveaway was held on Thursday at Bloch Park.
Gospel Tabernacle Church of God in Christ teamed with the City of Selma, Sonlight Center, Americorps and Dallas County to give out boxes of food to Selma and Dallas County residents. All five organizations were represented and sponsored the event.
Dallas County Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn assisted the Selma Police Department with escorting the countless vehicles in the parking lot for boxes that contained frozen leg quarters, sausages, fruits and countless vegetables.
Gospel Tabernacle Pastor John E. Grayson and his wife, Dr. Cece Grayson were on hand to help with the food drive.
“It’s a blessing for us to help Selma and Dallas County residents who lost their food from Hurricane Zeta,” Pastor Grayson said. “They can put food back in their refrigerators.”
Americorps Field Coordinator Jacqueline Smiley said the organization was honored to help Gospel Tabernacle with the food drive.
“It’s wonderful that we were able to help Gospel Tabernacle reach out to the community,” Smiley said.
