The Miracle-Ear Foundation and Alabama Miracle-Ear stores will be donating free 150 hearing aids to Selma residents next month.

The Miracle-Ear Foundation will waive the standard application fee. Queen city residents can see if they qualify by filling out an application at MiracleEarMission2020.org or call 334-246-2382 by Oct. 30.

The original deadline was Oct. 23, but the organization extended deadline another week.

The selected individuals from Selma will undergo hearing checks and medical screenings by local Miracle-Ear Hearing Care Professionals. Qualified recipients will then have their final hearing aid fitting and officially receive the Gift of Sound between Nov. 16-18.

“We’re grateful for the opportunity to help those in need as our community continues to suffer from the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting economic fallout,” Alabama Miracle-Ear owner Tim Toomey said.

“This is an area that historically does not have access to a lot of hearing care and our hope is that providing free hearing aids will help those struggling communicate better with their families, friends and loved ones during this stressful and uncertain time.”

According to state officials, almost 702,000 Alabama residents are either deaf or struggle with hearing loss.

“This has been a tough time economically for those around the country, but those in Tuskegee and Selma have been hit especially hard,” Miracle-Ear Foundation Vice President Jenni Hargraves said. “Giving the Gift of Sound is just one tangible way we can improve the quality of life for those who need it.”
