Dallas County overcame heavy rainfall to remain in the Class 4A playoff chase.

Markeice Stallworth scored two touchdowns and three two-point conversions as the Hornets celebrated homecoming with a 36-20 victory over Holt on Friday night at Martin Field in Plantersville.

“Our guys had to fight through adversity, rain games are always tough,” Hornets coach Heath LeVert said. “Our kids worked hard and earned the victory. My hat is off the offensive line. They never get the credit they deserve.”

Dallas County (2-4, 2-2) took control from the start, leading 8-0 on Stallworth’s 10-yard TD run and Amari Thomas’ 2-point conversion run.

The Hornets led 8-7 after one quarter when Holt’s Tyler Flowers scored on a 50-yard run.

The Hornets scored 14 points in the second quarter, leading 22-13 at halftime. Stallworth’s 3-yard TD run and 2-point conversion run and Joshua Brown’s 55-yard TD pass to Marquavious Pullom were Dallas County’s points in the second quarter.

The Ironmen (2-5, 2-3) cut the gap to 22-13 at halftime as Jordan Driver and Dayton O’Neal connected on a 25-yard TD pass to end the half.

The Ironmen cut the gap to 22-20 on Driver’s 32-yard TD run.

But the Hornets answered when Brown hit Carlton Underwood Jr. on a 35-yard TD pass for a 28-20 lead after three quarters.

Dallas County clinched the contest on Brown’s 35 yard TD run with 4:43 left. Stallworth added the 2-point conversion.

J’Mya Jackson was crowned homecoming queen.
