A group of Pastors in Selma and Dallas County is endorsing Rev. James Perkins Jr. for a third term as Selma Mayor.

The Christian Clergy in Action Ministry Alliance of Selma/Dallas County made their announcement over the weekend ahead of Tuesday’s runoff between Perkins and Selma City Councilwoman Miah Jackson. Perkins and Jackson met with the group in a Zoom meeting last week and discussed their platforms.

“After the Alliance met with both candidates, we felt that Selma needs a person with experience at this pivotal time in our city,” Christian Clergy President and Pastor Jonathan Shanks said. “With Perkins being the former mayor has a proven success record, he would make the best person to fill the position as Mayor of Selma.”

Shanks said the members unanimously voted to endorse Perkins, the first African-American Mayor of Selma. Perkins served two terms from 2000 to 2008.
