Yvonne Mitchell’s Prayer Pillow Ministry began inside her residence in Bibb County last year.

Mitchell, who resides in Randolph, donated pillows to the Dallas County Sheriff Office last week for its deputies and employees.

Mitchell began making pillows last month in the kitchen of her home in Randolph. Each pillow sent out is accompanied by scripture from the book of Habakkuk in the Bible.

“God woke me up out of my sleep one night,” said Mitchell. “I asked God to use me to help others and be a light for others. If God could help me get through breast cancer, how can he not help others when we need Him most.”

A 2005 graduate of Concordia College, Mitchell is a breast cancer survivor who underwent 16 rounds of chemotherapy and 8 weeks of radiation.

Mitchell said that Ola Morrow, a former Dallas County Sheriff Office employee, plays a big role in her success.

“She’s my prayer pillow partner,” Mitchell said. “Ola so diligently helps me to make all of this happen through Christ Jesus.”

Morrow, a kidney transplant survivor, said she’s grateful for the DCSO always having her back.

“The DCSO always looked out for me,” Morrow said.

Granthum said he appreciated the pillows from Mitchell and Morrow.

“There’s an outcry nationwide over the police, the prayer pillow ministry shows that they care about us,” Granthum said. “It means a lot to us.”
