A Selma resident was recently named President of the Alabama Association of Middle School Principals for the upcoming school year.

Greensboro Middle School Principal Anthony Sanders was also selected Alabama Middle School Principal of the Year for the previous school term by the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools.

“I am excited about leading AAMSP as we serve as the voice for middle school administrators in Alabama,” Sanders said. “Our primary focus for this year shall be legislative advocacy, professional growth of members, and providing principals and assistant principals with support during unprecedented times.

“My primary thoughts are how I can best serve middle school administrators in helping them meet and reach their goals, especially in the area of professional development and student achievement.  Serving as AAMSP President is truly an honor that I accept with great humility. It is my goal to serve our membership with dedication, decorum, and distinction.”

Sanders, a Keith High School graduate, has 25 years of public education experience. His career began at Selma High School, working a senior class advisor, American Government teacher and Economics teacher and freshman basketball coach.

At Southside High School, Sanders was assistant principal and later became Principal at Greensboro High School.

Sanders has worked at CLAS and AAMSP in several different capacities ranging from AAMSP Vice President, District III President, Fall Conference Planning Committee, CLAS Legislative Network. He also served on the CLAS District Selection Team for the Banner Schools Award Program.

The Orrville native will also serve as a mentoring principal at the CLAS New Principals Institute this year.
