Michael Jackson continues to move up the chain in the Alabama District Attorneys Association.

Jackson was named Vice President of the Alabama District Attorneys Association on Thursday for the upcoming year.  He’s the first African-American to hold the position.

The 56-year-old Jackson is the Fourth Judicial Circuit District Attorney, representing Dallas, Perry, Bibb, Hale and Wilcox Counties.

“It’s a great honor for me and the city of Selma,” Jackson said. “It’s a great honor to be picked by my peers. This shines a very positive light on Selma.”

In October, Jackson was elected as Secretary of Treasurer for the 2019-2020 year. His duties were conducting meetings and signing checks dealing with the Alabama District Attorney Association and the office of Prosecution Services.

Jackson’s legal career began in 1990 with the Fourth Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office. He entered private practice in 1994 and became a Selma municipal judge a year later.  Jackson remained a judge until 1998.

In 2004, Jackson became the first African-American district attorney elected to the Fourth Judicial District. At the time, Jackson was only second African-American District Attorney in Alabama.

Jackson graduated from Centre College in 1985 with a double major in economics/management and government. He earned a law degree from Florida State University College of Law in 1988.

Jackson and his wife, Miah Jackson, have four children. Miah Jackson is currently a Selma City Councilwoman and a Mayoral candidate.
