Fourth Judicial District Attorney Michael Jackson is urging residents in his district about a face mask scam surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Federal Trade Commission and the Postal Service are saying in addition to unsolicited seeds in the mail, unsolicited masks are also being sent.

According to Jackson, scam artists will try to take advantage of people going door-to-door handing out free masks that could be contaminated. Jackson said free masks also come through the mail.

“During this Pandemic, people need to really be on guard,” Jackson said. “Don’t open your door to strangers. Don’t put on free masks that are sent thru the mail. It may have poisons on them that are harmful to your health. Nothing in life is free, be safe.’’

Jackson presides over the Fourth Judicial District, which consists of Dallas County, Perry County, Bibb County, Hale County and Wilcox County.

Jackson urges anyone who’s been a victim of face mask fraud should call the U-S Attorney Disaster Fraud Hotline at 866-720-5721.
