After schools across Alabama were closed halfway through the spring semester due to the COVID-19 pandemic, parents, teachers, administrators and students began to wonder when normalcy would return.

Mackey announced Friday, June 26 that Alabama schools will reopen this fall, raising many questions from parents, students and teachers alike.

Selma City Schools (SCS) hopes to answer some of those questions on Thursday evening with a virtual parent information session conducted via Zoom at 5:30 p.m.

SCS has already issued a public service announcement via their website and social media, informing parents about what they can expect when school is once again in session on August 10.

The school system will offer flexible learning options, including traditional, hybrid and virtual instruction, students and staff screenings and daily safety precautions.

During Thursday’s Zoom meeting, parents will get a chance to voice their opinions and raise questions on SCS’s reopening plan and better understand the best options for their children.

Selma City Schools Community Outreach Specialist Courtney Washington said it is important SCS parents tune in to Thursday’s meeting and stay informed.

“Selma City Schools has been working hard to make the safety and health a priority of our students and teachers this fall,” she said. “Everything going on right now is brand new for everyone. Thursday’s meeting is an effort on our part to remain transparent and keep parents informed on what’s going on. It’s our parents right to voice their concerns and opinions on everything.”

Log in information for Thursday’s Zoom meeting is available at Selma City Schools’ website.
