The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) announced the election of Selma City Schools Superintendent Dr. Avis Williams as a new Board member
Williams, who just finished her third year as the SCS Superintendent, said she’s thrilled at the selection. She’s already an Alabama ASCD board member.
“ASCD is a premier resource for educators both nationally and internationally,” Williams said. “It’s an honor to have been elected to serve as part of the board and I look forward to working with the other board members as we continue the great work of the organization. This is particularly important during these unprecedented times as teachers and leaders navigate uncharted waters.”
ASCD CEO and Executive Director Ranjit Sidhu said in a press release that Williams’ educational background and experience made her a strong candidate.
“Avis, coming from Alabama ASCD will be a great addition as we continue to innovate and provide the content that educators need to navigate constantly changing learning environments,” Sidhu said.
The ASCD Board of Directors comprises 11 members, led by an elected president and vice president. Board candidates are selected by the ASCD Nominations Committee and are voted on by membership during the general election between March 13 and April 30.
